Funding programmes of the Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung

The Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung promotes excellent basic research in biology, chemistry, and medicine. With its funding programmes CoMove, Exploration Grants, and Rise up!, we strive to provide outstanding scientists at critical career stages with the freedom to pursue highly original, sometimes risky research projects.

CoMove (for researchers in Germany and Austria)

The new programme CoMove supports outstanding scientists in dual career constellations who are relocating to the region where their partner accepted or is negotiating an academic appointment at an institution in Germany or Austria. The programme is specifically designed for the accompanying partner who seeks to establish a new research group or relocate an existing one to continue their career in Germany or Austria. CoMove offers funding of up to 1,500,000 EUR over a period of 5 years. Applications for funding in the CoMove programme can be submitted on a rolling basis.

Exploration Grants (for researchers in Germany)

Exploration Grants offer the freedom to investigate intriguing ideas and test new lines of research with minimal bureaucracy, and thus, for example, to conduct the preparatory work necessary for research proposals to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) or the European Research Council (ERC). The programme offers up to 210,000 EUR over 2 years. Applications are accepted during two periods per year, with the online application opening four weeks prior to the deadlines on 15 March and 15 September of each year.

Scientific conferences (worldwide)

International conferences are essential for exchanging new ideas and research findings. They provide junior researchers with excellent opportunities to gain an overview of current issues, methods, and even controversial discussions in their respective fields of research. Further, these conferences offer junior researchers a platform for presenting their own own findings and establishing contacts with leading scientists. The Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung supports this exchange. Applications for support of scientific conferences may be submitted between 8 months and 10 weeks prior to the conference starting date.
